Mission

In current scenario where world is moving towards automation, requirement of skilled workers is needed who are versed in various backgrounds. Mechatronics Engineering is such a branch, which can fulfil these requirements where knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computational Capabilities are needed. The Mission of Department of Mechatronics Engineering is to impart quality education in above mentioned areas to produce employable engineers and researchers through excellence in teaching, research and entrepreneurship.

Vision

To fulfil the requirement of Mission of the Department, the curriculum of Department of Mechatronics Engineering has been designed keeping in mind that a student should be capable to design and automate a system. For designing and automation of a system mainly four different types of domain knowledge is needed i.e. Mechanical design, Electrical design, Signal processing and Control, and Programming. In this regard, the curriculum is segregated in mainly four sections,

1. Subjects, which give an understanding of mechanical design,

Solid Mechanics (Theory and Lab), Manufacturing technology (Theory and Lab), Kinematics of machine (Theory and Lab), Dynamics of machine, Fluid mechanics, Thermodynamics, Machine design, Dynamics and vibrations.

2. Subjects, which give an understanding of electrical design,

Basic electronic circuit, Analog circuit (Theory and Lab), Digital design (Theory and Lab), Electrical Machines (Theory and Lab), Electromechanical Interaction (Theory and Lab)

3. Subjects related to signal processing and control

Digital signal processing (Theory and Lab), sensors and actuators (Theory and Lab), IoT and embedded system (Theory and Lab), Control systems (Theory and Lab)

4. Subject, which deal with a complete mechatronic system.

Mechatronics and Automation (Theory and Lab), Robotics (Theory and Lab), Electric Vehicle

5. Subjects dealing with computational capabilities

C- Programming (Theory and Lab), Data Structure (Theory and Lab), OOPS(Theory and Lab), Artificial Intelligence (Theory and Lab), Machine Learning (Theory and Lab).

The realm of mechatronics engineering encompasses the design of economical, efficient systems. Mechatronic engineers develop select sensors and actuators, control algorithms, and advanced functional materials for mechanical systems in various industries. Mechatronics is everywhere around us, from the hard drives of computers and robots, to washing machines, coffee machines and medical equipments.

In initial days, Mechatronics Engineering Branch, IIIT Bhagalpur is aiming to lead the state of Bihar and India as a whole in the following areas,

1. Mechatronic systems to support villagers

The aim would be to understand the need of the villagers and design low cost instruments, which would be in affordable range.

2. Electric Vehicle and design

The pollution and limited gasoline source are one of the major problems of the society. Use of electric vehicle is a good way to reduce pollution. A lot of research is going on it across the world. IIIT Bhagalpur would also explore and lead the area of electric vehicle design.

3. Robotics

Robotics has many applications from manufacturing to medical industry. However, the aim of the department is to equip students with all the tools such that they should be capable of designing robotic equipment and other products such as a Drone.

4. Actuator design

The focus would be in development of electromagnetic design to provide solutions to rotating industry such as, electrical machines industry, Silk Industry etc.
